Main power button (1) - This button controls the burner system. The main power button (1) is only active when the generator is operating. When the heaters for the screed are OFF, a single depression of the main power button (1) causes the electronic control module for the heaters to operate the heaters for the screed. When the heaters for the screed are ON, a single depression of the main power button (1) causes the electronic control module for the heaters to discontinue the operation of the heaters for the screed.

Main power indicator (2) - The electronic control module for the heaters illuminates this indicator when the heating system for the screed is in operation.

Low temperature indicator (3) - The low temperature indicator (3) will illuminate when the system is in the low temperature mode. The system defaults to this mode upon start-up. When the low temperature indicator (3) is illuminated, the temperature setpoint is 110 °C (230 °F), and the heaters for the screed will operate until the temperature setpoint has been reached.

Note: If a temperature sensor fails and the setting is at the low position, the screed heaters will operate for 45 minutes if manual mode is activated by the operator. The manual mode will only activate when an error message is present for the temperature sensor.

Temperature controller (4) - The temperature controller (4) allows the operator to choose between three temperature setpoints. The indicators above the temperature controller specify the selected temperature setpoint. When the temperature controller (4) is depressed, the system will increase the temperature setpoint to the next highest value. If the system is at the highest value, the system will cycle to the smallest temperature setpoint.

Medium temperature indicator (5) - The medium temperature indicator (5) will illuminate when the system is in the medium temperature mode. When the medium temperature indicator (5) is illuminated, the temperature setpoint is 121 °C (250 °F), and the heaters for the screed will operate until the temperature setpoint has been reached.

Note: If a temperature sensor fails and the setting is at the low position, the screed heaters will operate for 70 minutes if manual mode is activated by the operator. The manual mode will only activate when an error message is present for the temperature sensor.

High temperature indicator (6) - The high temperature indicator (6) will illuminate when the system is in the high temperature mode. When the high temperature indicator (6) is illuminated, the temperature setpoint is 138 °C (280 °F), and the heaters for the screed will operate until the temperature setpoint has been reached.

Note: If a temperature sensor fails and the setting is at the low position, the screed heaters will operate for 90 minutes if manual mode is activated by the operator. The manual mode will only activate when an error message is present for the temperature sensor.

Error indicator (7) - The error indicator (7) alerts the operator when there is a fault in the system. The electronic control module creates a sequence of flashes on the error indicator. Each flash sequence represents a specific fault in the system.

Right extender temperature indicator (8) - The right extender temperature indicator (8) will illuminate when the right extender has reached operating temperature. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7). If the time to temperature has exceeded the standard heating time, the right extender temperature indicator will flash. The right extender heater will continue to heat until set point is reached. The flash does not indicate a code. Only error indicator (7) will show a code.

Right main temperature indicator (9) - The right main temperature indicator (9) will illuminate when the right main screed plate has reached operating temperature. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7). If the time to temperature has exceeded the standard heating time, the right main temperature indicator will flash. The right main heater will continue to heat until set point is reached. The flash does not indicate a code. Only error indicator (7) will show a code.

Right extender power indicator (10) - The right extender power indicator (10) will illuminate when power is available to the right extender heater. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7).

Right main power indicator (11) - The right main power indicator (11) will illuminate when power is available to the right main heater. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7).

Right extender manual indicator (12) - The right extender manual indicator (12) will illuminate when the right extender is in the manual heating mode.

Right extender manual button (13) - The right extender manual button (13) allows the operator to heat the right extender plate manually when the temperature sensor contains a fault. A single depression of the button will toggle the function between ON and OFF.

Right main manual indicator (14) - The right main manual indicator (14) will illuminate when the right main screed plate is in manual heating mode.

Right main manual button (15) - The right main manual button (15) allows the operator to heat the right main screed plate manually when the temperature sensor contains a fault. A single depression of the button will toggle the function between ON and OFF.

Left main manual button (16) - The left main manual button (16) allows the operator to heat the left main screed plate manually when the temperature sensor contains a fault. A single depression of the button will toggle the function between ON and OFF.

Left main manual indicator (17) - The left main manual indicator will illuminate when the left main screed plate is in manual heating mode.

Left extender manual button (18) - The left extender manual button allows the operator to heat the left extender plate manually when the temperature sensor contains a fault. A single depression of the button will toggle the function between ON and OFF.

Left extender manual indicator (19) - The left extender manual indicator will illuminate when the left extender is in the manual heating mode.

Left main power indicator (20) - The left main power indicator (20) will illuminate when power is available to the left main heater. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7).

Left extender power indicator (21) - The left extender power indicator (21) will illuminate when power is available to the left extender heater. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7).

Left main temperature indicator (22) - The left main temperature indicator (22) will illuminate when the left main screed plate has reached operating temperature. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7). If the time to temperature has exceeded the standard heating time, the left main temperature indicator will flash. The left main heater will continue to heat until set point is reached. The flash does not indicate a code. Only error indicator (7) will show a code.

Left extender temperature indicator (23) - The left extender temperature indicator (23) will illuminate when the left extender has reached operating temperature. If the electronic control module detects a fault in this circuit, a flashing error code will appear in the fault indicator light (7). If the time to temperature has exceeded the standard heating time, the left extender temperature indicator will flash. The left extender heater will continue to heat until set point is reached. The flash does not indicate a code. Only error indicator (7) will show a code.

Note: All of the status indicators are green. The error indicator is amber.

Starting the Heater for the Screed

  1. Start the engine. Allow the engine and the machine to warm up. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your paver for the procedure on starting the engine and for warming up the machine.

  2. Turn on the generator for the paver. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your paver for information on the generator control.

  3. Press the main power button (1) in order to turn on the heater for the screed. The main power indicator (2) will illuminate.

Note: When the heater for the screed is turned on, all of the indicators will illuminate momentarily as a system check.

Note: The set point of the temperature is automatically set at the low temperature setting at the initial start-up.

  4. Press the button for the temperature controller (4) in order to select the desired temperature setting. Press and release the button for the temperature controller (4) in order to scroll through the different temperature settings.

Note: The heating time for the screed will increase if you select a higher temperature setting. Changing the heat setting to the higher heat setting does not add more power for heating. Changing the heat setting only changes the set point temperature.

Shutting Down the Heater for the Screed

  1. Press the main power button (1) in order to turn off the heater for the screed.

  2. Turn off the generator for the paver. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual for your paver for information on the generator control.
