PR-275 PAVEMENT PROFILER Engine And Propulsion Caterpillar

1. Key switch - turns electrical power to the machine "On" or "Off".

2. Start switch - energizes the engine glow plugs when moved to the "Pre-Heat" position, or the glow plugs and starter when moved to "Start".

3. Throttle - sets engine speed. High idle speed should be 2,310 rpm.

4. Wheel drive control - changes machine travel speed capability by changing the angle of the wheel motor swash plates. Placing the control at "Travel" moves the swash plates to a minimum angle for maximum travel speed. When the control is at "Working" the swash plates are at a maximum angle for maximum torque capability.

5. Wheel control lever - controls the swash plate tilt angle of the wheel drive pump. This determines the speed and direction (forward or reverse) of travel. This lever is located to the left of the operator. See the photograph on page 2-4.

6. Parking brake control - engages or disengages the parking brake if the engine is running. If the control is set at "Off", hydraulic oil pressure is directed to the parking brake on the right rear wheel to release the brake. Moving the control to "On" releases the hydraulic pressure and engages the brake. The brake will automatically engage anytime the auxiliary hydraulic oil pressure falls below 700 psi.

7. Hour meter - shows the length of time the engine has run, in hours and tenths of hours.

8. Tachometer - shows engine speed in revolutions per minute, and the total number of revolutions the engine has made. High idle speed should be 2,310 rpm.

9. Oil pressure gauge - shows engine oil pressure. Normal range with warm oil is 50 to 80 psi.

10. Temperature gauge - shows engine coolant temperature. The temperature should be approximately 200°F (95°C) during operation.

11. Ammeter - indicates the amount of current flowing in the battery charging system. A plus (+) reading means that the alternator is producing enough current to operate the machine and charge the batteries. A minus (-) reading means that the batteries are discharging.

12. FPM meter - shows machine travel speed in feet per minute. Maximum travel speed with the wheel drive control at "Working" is 160 feet per minute, 440 feet per minute (5 miles per hour) with the wheel drive control at "Travel".

13. Wheel pressure gauge - shows the hydraulic pressure in the wheel drive system. Normal range is 0 to 4,500 psi.

14. Automatic shutdown system reset lever - used to reset the engine automatic shutdown system after it has been activated.

NOTE: PROLONGED CRANKING OF THE ENGINE MAY ACTIVATE THE SHUTDOWN SYSTEM AND MAKE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO START THE ENGINE UNTIL THE RESET LEVER IS TURNED CLOCKWISE.
