Elevation Sensor Control
NOTICE |
---|
ALWAYS KEEP THE ENGINE AT FULL THROTTLE AND AT A MINIMUM OF 2100 RPM WHILE MAKING A CUT. IF THE ENGINE STARTS TO FALL BELOW 2100 RPM, DECREASE THE TRAVEL SPEED. OPERATION AT ENGINE SPEEDS BELOW 2100 RPM WILL:
|

TO PREVENT HEARING DAMAGE, WEAR EAR PROTECTION WHEN WORKING CONTINUOUSLY ON OR NEAR THE MACHINE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. |
![]() |
NOTICE |
---|
WHEN MOVING A PR-450 UP ONTO OR DOWN OFF A CURB OR OTHER OBSTRUCTION, USE CRIBBING TO FORM A RAMP FROM THE LOWER LEVEL TO THE UPPER LEVEL OR THE MACHINE LEGS MAY BE DAMAGED. |
To start operation:
- 1. Position the machine at the starting point and lower the mainframe so the cutter is just above grade and the mainframe is level.
- 2. Place the sensor feeler rods in the reference rods.
- 3. Set the front elevation automatic mode selector at "Left Sensor", the rear mode selector at "Right Sensor" and, if so equipped, the slope control selectors to point toward the right.
- 4. Adjust the elevation sensors so that the cutter bits are just touching grade. It will also be necessary to use the left rear elevation control to keep the mainframe level.
- 5. Adjust the steering indicator position and set the right rear leg elevation scale to "O" or other selected reading.
NOTICE |
---|
SET THE ENGINE AT LOW IDLE IF POSSIBLE, BUT NOT TO EXCEED 1200 RPM IN ANY CASE BEFORE ENGAGING THE CUTTER. |
- 6. Engage the cutter.
- 7. Set the spray bar and conveyor controls at "On".
- 8. Set the engine at full throttle.
- 9. Move the travel control forward to provide a slow travel speed.
![]() |
WHENEVER STARTING A CUT, LOWER THE CUTTER SLOWLY! IF THE CUTTER IS LOWERED TOO FAST, THE MACHINE WILL RIDE UP ONTO THE CUTTER AND LUNGE BACKWARD SOME DISTANCE. THE MACHINE MAY ALSO LUNGE BACKWARD A SHORT DISTANCE IF THE CUTTER HITS SOME STEEL IN THE CONCRETE WHILE CUTTING. NEVER LET ANYONE STAND NEAR THE BACK OF THE MACHINE WHILE IT IS IN OPERATION!! |
![]() |
- 10. As the machine starts forward, slowly crank the elevation sensors up until the desired depth of cut is reached. The depth of cut will gradually increase and will stabilize after the left rear track is travelling on cut grade.
NOTE: THE MAXIMUM DEPTH OF CUT IS 6 INCHES.
![]() |
IF THE MACHINE HAS A REMOTE BASE RECLAIMER SWING CONTROL, NEVER USE THE CONSOLE MOUNTED SWING CONTROL AND THE REMOTE SWING CONTROL AT THE SAME TIME. ERRATIC UPPER CONVEYOR RESPONSE MAY OCCUR. NEVER STAND BEHIND THE MACHINE WHILE OPERATING THE REMOTE CONVEYOR SWING CONTROL. IF THE MACHINE HITS SOME STEEL IN THE CONCRETE OR SOME OTHER OBSTRUCTION, THE MACHINE MAY LUNGE BACKWARD A SHORT DISTANCE. ALWAYS STAND TO THE SIDE OF THE MACHINE, BEING CAREFUL TO STAY CLEAR OF THE REAR TRACK. |
![]() |
- 11. After the machine has travelled forward about two machine lengths, STOP THE MACHINE, check the grade being cut and make any necessary adjustments.
![]() |
CHECK THE GRADE AT A POINT BEHIND THE MACHINE, NOT BETWEEN THE CUTTER AND THE REAR TRACK. YOUR HAND OR FOOT COULD GET CAUGHT UNDER THE TRACK. |
![]() |
- 12. If it is necessary to correct the grade already cut:
- a. Stop the machine.
- b. Move the front and right rear elevation mode selectors to "Off".
- c. Raise the mainframe with the elevation controls.
- d. Back to the starting point and start the operation again.
Optional Cross Slope Control

To start the operation:
