Changing Engine Crankcase Oil And Filter

------ WARNING! ------

SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN BEFORE WORKING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT OR DRAINING THE OIL. STAY CLEAR OF HOT EXHAUST DUCTING AND HOT OIL.

------WARNING!--------

Make a visual check of all lubricating oil lines for wear and chafing. If any indication of wear is evident, replace the oil lines and correct the cause.

With the ENGINE STOPPED and the oil warm:

1. Remove the crankcase drain plug and allow the oil to drain.
2. Remove the oil filter cartridge and discard it.
3. Coat the gasket of a new replacement cartridge lightly with clean crankcase oil, screw the element onto the threaded post until the gasket contacts the head, then tighten the cartridge about 2/3 turn more.
4. Install the crankcase plug and fill the engine with oil conforming to the specification on page 5-1.

5. Disconnect the turbocharger oil supply line at the bearing (center) housing.
6. Fill the bearing housing cavity with clean engine oil and turn the rotating assembly by hand to coat all of the internal surfaces with oil.
7. Add clean engine oil to completely fill the bearing housing cavity, then reinstall the line. Clean off any spilled oil.
8. Start and run the engine at idle until oil pressure and supply has reached all of the turbocharger moving parts, indicated by an oil pressure gauge reading of 10 psi.

------ WARNING! ------

DO NOT HOLD THE COMPRESSOR WHEEL FOR ANY REASON WHILE THE ENGINE IS RUNNING. THIS COULD RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY.

------WARNING!--------
9. Check for any oil leaks.

Cleaning Engine Breather Caps

------ WARNING! ------

SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN BEFORE WORKING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. STAY CLEAR OF HOT EXHAUST DUCTING.

------WARNING!--------

Clean both breather caps as follows:

1. Release the hose clamp and disconnect the fumes disposal tube.
2. Remove the breather cap.

------ WARNING! ------

DO NOT SMOKE OR HAVE AN OPEN FLAME IN THE AREA WHEN USING DIESEL FUEL. DIESEL FUEL IS VOLATILE AND COULD IGNITE OR EXPLODE, CAUSING SERIOUS BURNS AND INJURIES FROM FLYING OBJECTS.

------WARNING!--------
3. Wash the breather cap in clean diesel fuel.
4. Allow to drain dry and then wipe.
5. Inspect the gasket. Install a new gasket if necessary.
6. Install the breather.
7. Connect the fumes disposal tube.

Servicing The Air Compressor Strainer

SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN BEFORE WORKING IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. STAY CLEAR OF HOT EXHAUST DUCTING.

Remove and wash all of the parts and clean or replace the strainer element. If the element is cleaned, it should be washed in non-flammable solvent or a detergent and water solution. The element should be saturated in clean engine oil, then squeezed dry before being replaced in the strainer. Be sure to replace the air strainer gasket if the entire air strainer is removed from the compressor intake.
