------ WARNING! ------

TO PREVENT HEARING DAMAGE, WEAR EAR PROTECTION WHEN WORKING CONTINUOUSLY ON OR NEAR THE MACHINE WITH EITHER OR BOTH ENGINES RUNNING.

------WARNING!--------

The ER-1000B has two engines:

Engine A (AVSpare 3412) powers the cutter.
Engine B (AVSpare 3208) supplies power for all other machine functions.

It is not necessary to start engine A except when the cutter is to be used. Engine B must be running before engine A is started.

Normal Starting Of Engine B (3208)

------ WARNING! ------

BE SURE ALL PERSONNEL ARE CLEAR OF THE MACHINE BEFORE STARTING THE ENGINE. SOUND THE HORN FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE STARTING, TO WARN ANY UNOBSERVED PERSONNEL.

ALWAYS START ENGINE B (AVSpare 3208) BEFORE STARTING ENGINE A (AVSpare 3412) AND ALWAYS CHECK THAT THE AIR BOX COVER IS CLOSED BEFORE STARTING ENGINE B. COOLING AIR WILL NOT FLOW THROUGH THE RADIATORS UNLESS ENGINE B IS RUNNING AND THE AIR BOX COVER IS CLOSED. THE HYDRAULIC MACHINE CONTROLS WILL NOT OPERATE UNLESS ENGINE B IS RUNNING.

------WARNING!--------
1. Set the main battery disconnect switch at "On" if it has been turned off.
2. Set all controls at "Off" or "N" (neutral) except the emergency and park brake control. SET THE EMERGENCY AND PARK BRAKE CONTROL AT "ON".

3. Set the fuel switch at "Fuel".
4. Sound the horn for several seconds to warn all personnel.
5. Set the engine B throttle lever halfway between "Increase" and "Decr."
6. Hold the starter switch at "Start". If the engine fails to start within 30 seconds, release the starter switch and wait 2 minutes to allow the starter motor to cool before repeating the starting procedure.

NOTICE

DO NOT ENGAGE THE STARTER WHILE THE FLYWHEEL IS MOVING OR THE STARTER AND FLYWHEEL MAY BE DAMAGED. IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF THE ENGINE IS MOVING, CHECK THE TACHOMETER OR THE AUXILIARY PRESSURE GAUGE.

7. Check the engine oil pressure gauge to be sure there is a pressure indication within 15 seconds. If not, shut the engine down immediately. Normal pressure is 35 to 70 PSI with the engine at rated speed, with SAE 10W/30 oil and at operating temperature.
8. Check the auxiliary pressure gauge. If the pressure does not reach 2250 PSI (normal pressure) within 5 seconds, shut the engine down immediately.
9. Check the voltmeter for a reading of about 28 volts, the alternator regulated output voltage. If the reading is less, determine and correct the cause before going further. The voltmeter should remain at about 28 volts anytime engine B is running.
10. Check the track pressure gauge for a zero (0) reading. Adjust the travel control as necessary to get the zero pressure.

------ WARNING! ------

IF THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE TRACK DRIVE SYSTEM AND THE EMERGENCY AND PARK BRAKE CONTROL IS MOVED TO "OFF", THE MACHINE WILL LUNGE EITHER FORWARD OR BACKWARD.

------WARNING!--------
11. Allow the engine to idle until all systems reach normal operating ranges. Check all gauges during the warm-up period.

Starting Of Engine B (3208) With Starting Fluid

------ WARNING! ------

USE STARTING FLUID SPARINGLY. FOLLOW THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY.

------WARNING!--------

When starting fluid is required to start the engine, two persons must be available; one person to perform the starting procedure and one person to spray the starting fluid into the engine air cleaner inlet. Follow the normal starting procedure and WHILE CRANKING THE ENGINE spray starting fluid into the air cleaner inlet for 1 second. Wait at least 2 seconds before spraying starting fluid again. If the engine does not start within 30 seconds, let the starter cool for 2 minutes, then repeat the procedure.

Normal Starting Of Engine A (3412)

------ WARNING! ------

NEVER START ENGINE A (AVSpare 3412) WITH THE CUTTER CLUTCH ENGAGED.

------WARNING!--------
1. Check the air pressure gauge on the console for a reading of 90 PSI. If there is no air pressure, the cutter clutch cannot be engaged, so the engine should not be started until the problem is corrected.
2. Set the cutter clutch control at "Out".
3. Set the engine A throttle lever halfway between "Off" and "Increase" (half engine speed position).
4. Sound the horn for several seconds to warn all personnel.
5. Set the ignition switch at "Ignition".
6. Turn the starter switch to "Start". If the engine fails to start in a few seconds, move the throttle lever to the "Off" position and continue to crank for 10 seconds. This will clear the cylinders of unburned fuel.

If the engine fails to start after 30 seconds of cranking, allow the starter to cool for 2 minutes before repeating the starting procedure.

7. Release the starter switch as soon as the engine starts and check for an immediate indication on the engine oil pressure gauge. STOP THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF THERE IS NO ENGINE OIL PRESSURE WITHIN 5 SECONDS.
8. Allow the engine to warm up at low idle until it reaches normal operating temperature.

Cold Weather Starting Of Engine A (3412)

Many variables can affect cold weather starting. Use the above chart as a guide, but actual experience will determine when aids are necessary and how they should be used.

------ WARNING! ------

WHEN USING STARTING AIDS, COMPLETE THE FIRST 6 STEPS OF THE NORMAL STARTING PROCEDURE BEFORE PROCEEDING TO ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES.

------WARNING!--------

Using Glow Plugs

Use glow plugs before cranking the engine, immediately after the engine has started, and until the engine is running smoothly. To use the glow plugs:

1. Push in and turn the starter switch to the "Preheat" position and hold for the approximate heating time shown in the chart.
2. Turn the starter switch to the "Start" position.
3. As soon as the engine starts, turn the starter switch to the "Preheat" position. Hold the switch in this position until the engine is running smoothly.
4. Release the switch.

NOTICE

NEVER USE GLOW PLUGS WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM AND RUNNING.

Using Starting Fluid

When starting fluid is required to start the engine, two persons must be available; one person to perform the starting procedure and one person to spray the starting fluid into one of the air cleaner inlets.

------ WARNING! ------

STARTING FLUID IS VOLATILE AND MUST BE STORED AWAY FROM HEAT AND DIRECT SUNLIGHT. IF AN AEROSOL CONTAINER IS USED, FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE CONTAINER.

------WARNING!--------

NOTICE

SPRAY STARTING FLUID ONLY WHILE CRANKING THE ENGINE. IF STARTING FLUID IS SPRAYED INTO AN ENGINE THAT IS RUNNING, THE FLUID WILL CAUSE SEVERE PREIGNITION IN ALL CYLINDERS UNTIL THE FLUID IS CONSUMED.

To use starting fluid:

1. Heat the glow plugs for approximate heating time shown in the chart on page 4-5.
2. Turn the starter switch to the "Start" position. While cranking, discharge a quick spray of starting fluid into the air cleaner.
3. If necessary, repeat the procedure.
4. After the engine starts, it may be necessary to return the starter switch to the "Preheat" position until the engine runs smoothly. Then release the switch.

In very low temperatures, the lubricating oil must be warmed to allow starting. A jacket water heater can maintain the jacket water temperature at approximately 90°F (32°C). The warm jacket water will keep the oil in the upper part of the engine block warm enough to flow when starting.

NOTICE

CONTACT YOUR AVSpare DEALER BEFORE INSTALLING A DIPSTICK CRANKCASE OIL HEATER.
