The ER-1000B has several controls and systems that the operator and service personnel should be familiar with.

The Main And Emergency Battery Disconnect Switches

The main battery disconnect switch removes the batteries from the electrical circuit when the switch is set at "Off". The emergency battery disconnect switch, which is located in the forward console, can be used to move the main battery disconnect switch to "Off" electrically.

The main battery disconnect switch should be at "Off" anytime the batteries are being charged, an electrical component is being removed or installed, or a major repair job is being performed.

Safety Stops

A safety stop is installed at each of the leg assemblies. Before working under the machine, raise the mainframe, lower the safety stops to vertical, then lower the mainframe onto the stops. This will prevent any downward movement of the mainframe while anyone is under the machine. Be sure the stops are properly stowed before starting operation.

Upper Conveyor Safety Link

The clearance between the upper conveyor and the mainframe is so small that a person standing near the front (tail pulley end) of the conveyor could be crushed if the conveyor were to swing. Therfore, anytime it is necessary to work near the front of the upper conveyor, be sure the safety link is installed between the conveyor and the mainframe. Be sure the safety link is properly stowed on the mainframe before starting operation.

Lower Conveyor Lift System

A single valve controls a hydraulic cylinder that will lift the front of the lower conveyor to allow the cutter to be removed. The front of the cutter MUST be lowered so the hooks on the front of the conveyor are engaged with the moldboard for operation. Engine B (AVSpare 3208) must be running for this system to operate.

Systems For Servicing The Cutter

------ WARNING! ------

DISENGAGE THE CUTTER CLUTCH, LOCK THE CLUTCH CONTROL AT "OUT" AND SHUT THE CUTTER ENGINE (ENGINE A) DOWN BEFORE WORKING ON THE CUTTER. SERIOUS INJURIES CAN RESULT FROM INADVERTENT STARTING OF THE CUTTER.

BE SURE THE EMERGENCY AND PARK BRAKE CONTROL IS AT "ON" WHEN WORKING ON THE MACHINE WITH ENGINE B RUNNING.

Engine B (AVSpare 3208) must be running for the systems described below to operate.

Two quick disconnect couplings are provided in the compressed air system to connect air operated tools into the system. An air operated hammer is supplied with each machine to use for changing the cutter bits.

The cutter door is raised or lowered by a hydraulic cylinder controlled by a manual valve. Secure the door with a safety chain before working on the cutter.

A cutter auxiliary drive system rotates the cutter at a slow speed to provide access to all the cutter bits. The cutter cannot be in contact with the grade when this system is used. To use the system:

1. Move the cutter auxiliary drive motor into position and connect it to the sheave drive coupling at either end of the cutter.
2. Connect the hoses, then use the control valve to activate the motor and turn the cutter. Operate the cutter in the forward (normal upcutting) direction whenever possible.
3. Disconnect the hydraulic hoses and disconnect the motor from the sheave drive coupling. THE CUTTER AUXILIARY DRIVE MOTOR MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM THE DRIVE SHEAVE COUPLING BEFORE ENGAGING THE CUTTER MAIN DRIVE.
