MACHINE ARRANGEMENT
- 1. Check tires for proper inflation daily before starting operation. If the air pressure in a tire shows a decided drop, check for slow leaks and repair any leaks immediately. Use a clip-on chuck with an air hose long enough to permit you to stand behind the tread when adding air. NEVER STAND BESIDE THE TIRE. THE TIRE COULD BLOW OUT CAUSING SERIOUS INJURIES. Be sure the valve cap is screwed on tight.
- 2. Check tires daily before operation for abnormal or uneven wear, indicating mechanical trouble such as a bent axle or misaligned wheel.
- 3. Check daily before operation that all wheel lug nuts are present and tight. Loose or missing wheel lug nuts can cause dangerous wheel shimmy and loss of vehicle control. Tightening wheel lug nuts excessively can cause dangerous stud breakage.
- 4. Check wheels daily before operation for fatigue cracks. Replace if cracked, badly worn, damaged or severely rusted.
- 5. Never "bleed" tires to relieve "build-up" of pressure. Tire design recognizes that the tire temperature will increase when the tire is in service and allows for the normal "build-up" of air pressure. Tire temperature and air pressure will remain within limits not harmful to the tire when used in accordance with the recommendations for load and air pressure.
- 6. Never reinflate a tire that has been run flat without first inspecting the tire and wheel.
- 7. Clean and repaint rims to stop detrimental effects of corrosion. A filter on the air inflation equipment to remove the moisture from the air line helps prevent corrosion. The filter should be checked periodically to see that it is working properly.
- 8. Regardless of how hard or firm the ground appears always put hardwood blocks under the jack when changing a tire.
- 9. Block the tires and wheels on the other side of the vehicle before you place the jack in position. Always crib the vehicle with blocks, just in case the jack slips.
- 10. Always exhaust all air from the tire prior to removing wheel lug nuts. Remove the valve core and exhaust all air from the tire then check the valve stem by running a piece of wire through the stem to make sure it is not plugged.
- 11. When using a cable and chain sling, stand clear. The cable or chain might snap and lash out.
- 12. Periodically check the torque output of air operated wrenches to be sure the wrenches are operating properly.
- 13. Never let anyone mount or dismount tires without proper training first.
- 14. Make sure correct parts are being assembled. Check with your distributor or the manufacturer if you have any doubts.
Never use undersized rims. Use the right rims for the job.
- 15. Never attempt to seat rings by hammering while the tire is inflated. Never hammer on an inflated or partially inflated tire/rim assembly.
- 16. Never attempt to rework, weld, heat, or braze any rim components that are cracked, broken or damaged. Replace with new parts, or parts that are not cracked, broken, or damaged and which are of the same size, type and make.
- 17. Never attempt to weld on an inflated tire and wheel assembly. THE TIRE COULD BLOW OUT CAUSING SERIOUS INJURIES.
- 18. Always inflate newly mounted tires in a safety cage or use a portable safety device. Use a clip-on chuck with an air hose long enough to permit you to stand behind the tread when adding air. NEVER STAND BESIDE THE TIRE. THE TIRE COULD BLOW OUT CAUSING SERIOUS INJURIES.
