ENGINE NOISE CAN CAUSE HEARING DAMAGE. WEAR EAR PROTECTION WHEN WORKING CONTINUOUSLY ON OR NEAR THE MACHINE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING.

1. Check that all controls are at "Stop", "Off" or "Manual", except the park brake switches. THE PARK BRAKE SWITCHES ON BOTH PANELS MUST BE AT "ON" OR THE ENGINE WILL NOT START.

STARTING THE ENGINE BEFORE ALL PERSONNEL ARE CLEAR OF THE MACHINE COULD CAUSE PERSONAL INJURY. SOUND THE HORN FOR SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE STARTING.

2. Hold the engine speed switch at "Fast" to set the engine at high idle.

3. Turn the ignition key switch on and hold the start switch at "Start". As soon as the engine starts, release the start switch. Be certain the flywheel and starter have stopped rotating if it becomes necessary to re-engage the starter.

4. If the engine does not start in 15 seconds, release the starter. Do not engage the starter again for 10 to 15 seconds.

5. Slow the engine and allow it to idle for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the water temperature gauge has begun to rise.

6. Do not apply load to the engine or increase engine speed until the oil pressure gauge indicates normal. (Oil pressure should rise within 15 seconds after the engine starts.) If oil pressure does not register within 15 seconds, stop the engine immediately to prevent damage.

7. Operate the engine at low load until all systems reach operating temperatures. Check all gauges during the warm-up period.

Cold Weather Starting

To start the engine in cold weather, follow the normal starting procedure on page 4-2, except before moving the start switch to "Start", hold the start switch at "Preheat" for 15 seconds. If the engine fails to start after 15 seconds, return the switch to "Preheat" for another 10 seconds then engage the starter again. It may be helpful to keep the switch at "Preheat" for 10 seconds after the engine has started.
