Reference: Disassembly and Assembly, KENR3025, "PM-565 and PM-565B Cold Planer Machine Systems"

This Special Instruction provides information in order to install the D8 rotor drive in the PM-565 and the PM-565B Cold Planer.

  1. Remove belt covers (1) and guard (2). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive V-Belt Cover Plates".

  1. Remove rotor drive belt (3).

  1. Remove upper sheave (4) from upper sheave support (5). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave Pulley (Upper)".

  1. Remove idler sheave (6) from idler sheave support (7). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Idler Sheave".

  1. Remove lower sheave (8) from lower sheave support (9). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave (Lower)".

    Note: Refer to Illustration 2 for Step 2 through Step 5.

  1. Remove the cooling line from inlet port J (10) and remove the cooling line from outlet port L (11) on the upper sheave support.

  1. Remove the upper sheave support (12) from the machine. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave Support Group (Upper)".

  1. Remove the idler assembly from the rotor drive. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Disassemble and Assemble Rotor Drive Idler".

    Lower sheave

  1. Remove the breather line from the 1F-8488 Breather As on the lower sheave support. Remove the 1F-8488 Breather As from breather port L3 (13). The 1F-8488 Breather As will not be used on the D8 drive.

  1. Install a 9S-8002 Plug and a 3J-7354 O-Ring Seal in breather port L3 (13) on the lower sheave support.

  1. Remove the cooling lines from inlet port L1 (14) and from outlet port L2 (15) on the lower sheave support.

  1. Remove the lubrication line from lube port L4 (16) on the lower sheave support.

  1. Remove the lower sheave support (12). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave Support Group (Lower)".

  1. Remove side plate (17) from the rotor chamber.

  1. Remove bearing plate (18). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Bearing".

  1. Remove the rotor from the chamber. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Assembly".

  1. Drain the antifreeze from the rotor. The antifreeze can be reused.

  1. Remove planetary drive (19) from the rotor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Gear Reducer".

  1. Remove adapter ring (20) from planetary drive (19).

    1. Increase the size of inner holes (21) on the adapter ring from 19.837 mm (0.78 inch) to 20.75 mm (0.82 inch).

      Note: The adapter ring can be reworked or a new 131-2926 Drive Plate can be purchased.

    Upper Sheave Support

    (A) 230 mm (9.05 inches)

    (B) 85 mm (3.35 inches)

    (C) 135°

  1. Rework the upper sheave support.

    1. Machine the upper sheave support to the dimensions that are listed in Illustration 10.

      Note: A new 168-1923 Pulley Housing can be purchased in order to avoid the rework of the upper sheave support.

  1. Rework mounting holes (22) in the chamber for the planetary drive.

    1. Increase the size of mounting holes (22) from 30.5 mm (1.20 inches) to 32 mm (1.26 inches).

  1. Remove the sealant, the oil, and the dirt from the mounting surfaces of the rotor. Also, clean the mounting surfaces on the adapter ring, and on the planetary drive.

  1. Install adapter ring (20) on 132-7386 Rotor Drive (27). Use 20 7X-2563 Bolts , and 20 8T-4123 Plated Washers . Align the two access holes in the adapter ring with the two holes for the oil ports on the planetary drive. Torque bolts (23) to 400 N·m (295 lb ft).

  1. Torque bolts (24) on the back of the planetary drive to 370 N·m (273 lb ft).

  1. Apply a 20 mm (0.79 inch) bead of 8T-9014 Silicone Sealant (28) around the 132-7386 Rotor Drive .

  1. Install 132-7386 Rotor Drive (27) into the rotor. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Gear Reducer".

    Note: Insert one 8T-8924 Bolt (25) and one 8T-4994 Hard Washer next to one of the removal holes. Insert another 8T-8924 Bolt and 8T-4994 Hard Washer on the opposite side of the planetary next to a removal hole. Tighten the two bolts evenly and then insert the remaining 18 8T-8924 Bolts and 18 8T-4994 Hard Washers . Torque the 8T-8924 Bolts (25) to 475 N·m (350 lb ft).

  1. Use 12 7X-2583 Bolts and 12 9X-8258 Washers in order to install the rotor into the rotor chamber. Torque bolts (26) to 1400 N·m (1032 lb ft). Refer to Illustration 12. Also, refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Assembly".

  1. Fill the planetary with TDTO 50 oil. The 8T-9576 Oil comes in a 19 L (5 US gal) container. The 8T-9577 Oil comes in a 208 L (55 US gal) container.

  1. Install upper sheave support (5) and idler assembly (7). Reuse the original hardware for the upper sheave support and the idler assembly. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave Support Group (Upper)" and Disassembly and Assembly, "Disassemble and Assemble Rotor Drive Idler".

  1. Install lower sheave support (9). Use four 8T-6430 Bolts and four 8T-4123 Plated Washers in order to install the lower sheave support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave Support Group (Lower)".

  1. Install the lubrication lines into lube port L4 (16) on the bearing for the lower sheave.

  1. Install the cooling lines into inlet port L1 (14) and outlet port L2 (15) .

  1. Install 165-8033 Pulleys (29) on the upper sheave support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave Pulley (Upper)" and Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Idler Sheave" .

  1. Install the 165-8036 Pulley (30) on the lower sheave support. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Remove and Install Rotor Drive Sheave (Lower)".

  1. Install a new 169-4817 V-Belt (31).

  1. Install original belt guard (2). Use 12 mm (0.47 inch) spacers with the original hardware in order to attach the belt guard.

    (32) 170-3884 Frame As

  1. Install two covers (1) for the belt guard.

    Note: A new 170-3884 Frame As (32) can be purchased in order to replace the original guards.

  1. Install the antifreeze into the rotor.
