PROBLEM
The existing steering wheel cover may crack on certain Motor Graders due to a manufacturing error. See Image #1. The polymer material that covers the wheel has a low level of crystallinity, which makes it more rigid and fragile. The cracking of the cover does not effect the steering wheel's ability to guide the machine properly. |

ACTION REQUIRED
If the steering wheel cover is cracked, then the 384-5820 Steering Wheel should be replaced with one that has a date code of 7/2019 or later. {See Image #2 & #3} Before starting any work, refer to the Service Manual if/as necessary. Ensure that the machine is put in a safe state ahead of rework beginning and make sure that you have read and understand the Operation and Maintenance Manual for safety information and safe working practices. Park machine on a level surface. Chock the machine. Apply the service brake to stop the machine. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position. Move the speed control lever to the LOW IDLE position. Engage the parking brake. Lower all attachments to the ground. Stop the engine. Turn the engine start switch to OFF position. Remove the horn cover then remove the 144-6695 Nut holding the steering wheel in place. Remove the cracked steering wheel and prepare to install the new 384-5820 Steering Wheel. Prior to installation check the new steering wheel to verify the date code is 7/2019 or later. {See Image #3} Install new steering wheel and secure it using the 144-6695 Nut. Reinstall horn cover.
