Premature wear may be experienced on the transmission clutch(es) group on certain 12K, 120K, 120K 2, 120K 2 OEM, 140K, 140K 2, and 160K Motor Graders. If a transmission clutch is prematurely worn it could result in a loss of certain gears under load or Intermediate/Output Shaft Speed Codes setting in the Transmission ECM, depending on the clutch that fails.

After transmission disassembly and inspection, replace all parts listed under parts needed and additional parts that do not meet Salvage and Reuse Guidelines.

Required Updates:
1. Software ? Publication # M0114977 (Group 1)/ # M0114981 (Group 2) - New Power Train Software Group Is Now Used on Certain K Series Motor Graders

Note: Software update requires service tool Cat Electronic Technician (Cat ET) Service tool release 2019B version or later.

Note: Before performing any repair to this machine, refer to the "Parking" section in the Operation and Maintenance Manual for safe parking procedures.

Note: Always use the latest software available. Sometimes flash file part numbers are updated before the program terminates.

New software is available in the form of a flash file through AVSpare Service Information System (SIS). A newer part number may be available. SIS web only displays the latest available flash file.

2. Kidney Loop - Prior to operating the machine, it is recommended to kidney loop the power train oil to remove debris caused by the failure. Clean the oil to a cleanliness level of ISO 18/15 or cleaner. Do not shift the transmission during the kidney looping process.

Refer to the "Contamination Control Guidelines" and "Tool Operating Manual" for Kidney Looping details.
