PROBLEM
Certain 183-9511 Spider Gears and 273-0178 Side Gears, for use in 797, 797B, and 797F Off-Highway Truck Differentials, may be incorrectly machined and lead to a premature failure. The gears (if assembled) will lead to an incorrect backlash and rotating torque specification, which can cause a low hour differential failure. |
ACTION REQUIRED
Inspect dealer stock of the 183-9511 Spider Gears and 273-0178 Side Gears to confirm the supplier code markings scribed on the side of the gear. Any 183-9511 Spider Gear marked as 183-9511 U AON AVS is suspect and needs to be removed from dealer stock. Any other gear marking codes are not suspect and do not need to be removed from dealer stock. Please reference image 1 for the suspect gear markings for the 183-9511 Spider Gear. An additional visual indicator of a suspect 183-9511 Spider Gear, is a unique chamfer on the convex side of each gear teeth. This added chamfer will vary in width from gear to gear. Please reference image 2 for the chamfer identification. Please reference image 3 and 4 for the gear markings for the suspect 273-0178 Side Gear. The U AOU code and serial number (marked opposite side of the part number) can be used to identify suspect 273-0178 Gears. |
