PROBLEM
Certain 120M Military Motor Graders were shipped from the factory without all the proper welds at the rear bumper (326-0879) as required for military configurations. Without the additional supporting welds if the machine is lifted off the ground or air dropped there is a higher chance for the rear frame to be damaged. |

ACTION REQUIRED
WARNING. Read and understand the Operation and Maintenance Manual for safety information and safe working practices before starting this Rework Procedure. Park on a level surface. If you must park on a grade, chock the machine. Apply the service brake to stop the machine. Move the transmission control to the NEUTRAL position. Move the speed control lever to the LOW IDLE position. Engage the parking brake. Lower all attachments to the ground. Stop the engine. Operate all hydraulic controls through all positions to relieve hydraulic pressure. Repeat this step until all hydraulic pressure is released. Turn the engine start switch to OFF position and remove the key. Turn battery disconnect switch to the OFF position. Inspect location 1 on each side of the ripper bumper to see if there is a weld on the support bracket at the end, return machine to service. If the weld is missing follow proper welding guidelines to update the machine. Start by reviewing Special Instruction, REHS1841 "General Welding Procedures". After properly preparing the machine for weld, apply a 12mm Fillet weld using 3 passes with a wire diameter of minimum 0.052. The weld should join the lower support plate to the rear bumper. Once the welding is complete allow it time to cool and touch up the welded areas with paint to prevent rusting. Return machine to service. |
