PROBLEM
The existing flywheel housing can leak oil between the housing to cylinder block joint on certain 3516E Engines. |
ACTION REQUIRED
Rework 3516E Engines with 463-4010 Engine Arrangement with the following engine serial numbers in dealer parts stock: EXM00114 EXM00115 EXM00123 EXM00125 EXM00127 EXM00128 EXM00129 EXM00131 EXM00132 Refer to the attached Rework Procedure for reworking certain 3516E Engines in dealer part stock. Refer to Image1 for the parts needed to rework each engine in dealer parts stock. |

SERVICE CLAIM ALLOWANCES
Submit one claim for all engines reworked in dealer part stock. Include the serial number of each engine reworked in dealer parts stock. 20 hours are allowed to rework each engine in dealer part stock. The parts that are listed in Image1 in the Action Required are allowed for reworking each engine in dealer part stock. |
PARTS DISPOSITION
Handle the parts in accordance with your Warranty Bulletin on warranty parts handling. |

Inspect all 3516E engines with 463-4010 Engine Arrangement in dealer parts stock. Only perform the following rework procedure if an engine has an engine serial number that is listed in the Action Required. Reference the Disassembly and Assembly, M0074451, for the procedure and tooling required to remove the rear housing and oil pan. Refer to Testing and Adjusting, M0068036, and Specifications, M0068042, for the reassembly procedure. The following information provides the location of some key components that will be reused during the assembly process. Sub-assemble the new 457-0070 Rear Housing. Transfer the plugs in Image 1.1.1 from the former housing to the new housing. |

Transfer idler shaft, thrust washers, and gear/shaft assemblies from former housing. Refer to Image 1.2.1 and Image 1.2.2 for location of new sealing washers, O-rings and lip seals. |

Install the new rear housing. Utilize replacement 577-1766 and 577-1767 Sealing Washers and a 417-5424 PIP Seal. Ensure the 7X-4805 O-ring is in place between block and rear housing. |

Install idler shaft bolts, hard washers, and sealing washers. Replacement 577-1766 and 577-1767 Sealing Washers. |

Install 436-1479 Crank Seal, flywheel, cam gears, and perform valve lash/injector height adjustments. Install remaining hardware, covers to the rear housing, and the oil pan. |
