SUBJECT: FAULT CODE MAY APPEAR WHILE PERFORMING PI10199
PROBLEM:
Fault codes may appear while you implement product support program PI10199 "Product Support Program for Installing New Engine Software". The engine software defaults to the demand fan system, which was effective with AFX741, AGF472, AWR217, AXM371 and AZZ264. A 291-05 fault code may appear on older machines that have the thermal temperature valve in the top radiator tank.
SOLUTION:
To eliminate the 291-05 fault code, go into the engine ECM with ET and switch the fan off. Then clear the 291-05 code. A new fault code 1076-05 (fan bypass) may appear. Clear the 1076-05 fault code. It may take several attempts. If the 1076-05 fault code still does not clear, then power down the ECM by turning the key switch to off for 30 seconds. Turn the key switch on and check to see if the 1076-05 fault code has cleared. You may have to clear the fault code again.
Also, you may get fault codes if you try to bypass interim software updates. If you find that the software on the machine is not the software that most recently precedes the latest software, upgrade through each intermediate software version. Sometimes problems can occur if you try to skip software upgrades.
Finally, you may get an E17 code when you calibrate the retarder. This code indicates that the engine speed is out of the retarder calibration range. If this occurs, use hoist power down during retarder calibration. This will lower the engine speed. Note that the hoist lever must be moved to raise first in order to reset the system after the key switch has been turned on.
