SUBJECT: EXPANSION AND/OR SPLITING OF THE STICK AS A RESULT OF WATER ENTERING THE STICK AND FREEZING DURING EXTREME COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS
PROBLEM:
Reports have been received of expansion and/or splitting of the stick as a result of water entering the stick and freezing during extreme cold weather conditions. The affected stick assemblies and stick groups are listed in the following table:
Model |
Group |
Component |
BH27 |
207-8474 Stick Gp |
207-8475 Stick As |
BH30 |
204-4045 Stick Gp |
204-4031 Stick As |
BH30W |
SOLUTION:
Perform the rework procedure that follows.
Rework Procedure
The rework consists of drilling holes in the bottom plate of the stick assembly to enable water to drain from inside the body of the stick. See Figure 1 and Figure 2.
- Drill a 10 mm (0.4 inch) diameter hole in the chamfered portion of the bottom plate of the stick assembly. See Figure 3 for the drilling location.
- Drill a 10 mm (0.4 inch) diameter hole in the bottom plate of the stick assembly. See Figure 4 for the drilling location. Note: Drill through both the outer plate and the inner plate as shown in Figure 2. The distance between the two plates is approximately 10 mm (0.4 inch).
