Component Code: 7402

SUBJECT: 180-0041 BRUSH KIT MAY SHORT

PROBLEM:

Wear material from the horn brush wear ring may build up between the horn brush and the steering column causing intermittent or constant sounding of the horn. This occurs on some machines between 34 SMH and 20,000 SMH.

SOLUTION:

Install an 8 mm (0.32 inch) section of rubber hose with an I.D. of 7.55 mm (0.30 inch) and an O.D. of 14 mm (0.55 inch) over the metal end of the brush assembly. A 5/16 inch fuel line can be substituted in place of the rubber hose. Use a small amount of 4C-9612 Sealant to insure retention of the hose. Lubricate the horn brush kit contact ring with a 145-2866 Grease kit.

If the ring is deeply worn and the assembly has only one spring, replace with a new 180-0041 brush kit and lubricate with the included 145-2866 Grease Kit.

If the assembly has 2 springs (one inside the other), replace with a 180-0041 Brush Kit. Use a 180-0040 Cover Kit to replace the 180-0109 Cover Kit. Lubricate with the included 145-2866 Grease Kit. Torque the new column nut to 82.0 ? 5 N?m (60.5 ? 3.7 lb ft).
