SUBJECT: Modification to Prevent Air Leaks at the Primary Fuel Filter.

PROBLEM:

Certain 170-0062 Metal Bowl As may not be achieving adequate crush on the O-ring seal allowing air into the fuel system.

SOLUTION:

Modify the existing 170-0062 Metal Bowl As to improve the crush on the 0-ring seal between the metal bowl as and the primary filter element.

Removal Procedure:

Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

Loosen water drain cock (6) to relieve fuel system pressure

Remove 170-0061 Fuel Filter As (2).

Remove 170-0062 Metal Bowl As (4) from filter element (2). Discard filter element (2).

Remove and discard seal (1) and (3).

Remove drain cock (6) and plug (5).

Modification Procedure:

Set up 170-0062 Metal Bowl As (4) in a lathe and machine off the lip near the seal seat. Refer to figure 2.

Installation Procedure:

Install drain cock (6) and plug (5) in the modified metal bowl as (4).

Install the 141-0284 Seal Kit on modified metal bowl as (4) and fuel base as (7).

Install a new 133-5673 Filter Element (8) on fuel base as (7).

Install modified metal bowl as (4) on the filter element.

Prime the fuel system and purge the air from the system.

Start the machine and test operation.
