SUBJECT: Faulty Fuel Priming Pumps
PROBLEM:
Due to a quality problem, the engines that are listed above may have been built with a defective fuel-priming pump. The manufacturing date codes are stamped on the base of the fuel-priming pump. Pumps with the date codes 4A4 or 4B4 are defective and should not be used. Pumps with other date codes or with no date code stamped on the exterior of the base can be used.
SYMPTOM:
Fuel may seep from the base of the fuel-priming pump.
SOLUTION:
If the engine is equipped with a 137-5541, a 183-2833, or a 162-3906 Fuel-Priming Pump, replace the pump with a pump that is known to be good. If a good pump is not available, use a 6N-4414 Cover in place of the fuel-priming pump.
Please note: The torque values to use when installing the new pumps are as follows: Small bolt = 12 +/-3 N-m
Large Bolt = 15 +/-3 N-m
The problem is being corrected in order to return fuel-priming pumps to free supply throughout the parts system.
This TIB should be shared with all TEPS dealers.
