SUBJECT: S?O?S OIL SAMPLE PORT LEAKS
PROBLEM:
Reports of oil leaks in the vicinity of the S?O?S oil sample port have been received. Investigation has revealed the absence of O-ring seals and/or washers in the assembly of components for the S?O?S oil sample port.
SOLUTION:
Inspect all listed machines for leaks between the components of the S?O?S oil sample port. Note: The S?O?S oil sample port is located beside the oil filter housing at the left rear of the engine.
If oil leaks are evident, perform the rework procedure below in order to install and/or replace the required washers and O-ring.

Rework Procedure
Note: There is limited access to the area of the S?O?S oil sample port. Take care to prevent damage to surrounding components.
WARNING |
Hot oil and hot components can cause personal injury. Do not allow hot oil or hot components to contact skin. |
NOTICE |
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "AVSpare Tools and Shop Products Guide: for tools and supplies to collect and contain fluids in AVSpare machines. Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations. |
- Disconnect the electrical connector from oil pressure switch (D).
- Remove oil pressure switch (D).
- Remove dust cap (F) from the valve assembly (E).
- Remove valve assembly (E) from the tee (C). Use backup wrench to support the tee.
- Remove tee (C) from adapter (B). Use a backup wrench to support the adapter.
- Remove adapter (B) from the engine block.
- Place one washer (1) on end of adapter (B) and insert the end of adapter (B) through opening in oil tube assembly (A).
- Place a second washer (1) on the end of adapter (B) and then apply sealant to the threads.
- Reinstall adapter (B) in the engine block. Thread the adapter at least four threads by hand to avoid cross-threading. Then, tighten the adapter to a torque of 11 ? 1 N?m (8 ? 1 lb.ft).
- Place O-ring seal (2) on the threaded end of tee (C) and then apply sealant to the threads.
- Thread tee (C) into adapter (B). Orient tee (C) so that the side port is toward the rear of the machine. Tighten the tee to a torque of 13 ? 1 N?m (10 ? 1 lb.ft). Use a backup wrench to support the tee and to maintain correct orientation..
- Place O-ring seal (3) on the threaded end of valve assembly (E) and then apply sealant to the threads.
- Reinstall valve assembly (E) in tee (C). Tighten the valve assembly to a torque of 22 ? 1 N?m (16 ? 1 lb.ft). Use a backup wrench to support the tee.
- Apply sealant to the threads of oil pressure switch (D) and reinstall the oil pressure switch in tee (C). Tighten the pressure switch to a torque of 11 ? 1 N?m (8 ? 1 lb.ft).
- Reconnect the electrical connector to oil pressure switch (D).
- Reinstall dust cap (F).
Note: The oil tube assembly (A) is free to move at this point.
Note: To prevent oil leaks, one washer (1) is required between the oil tube assembly (A) and the engine block, and one washer (1) is required between the oil tube assembly (A) and the adapter (B), as shown in Figure A.
