SUBJECT: The Transmission Oil Filter Housing May Be Cracked on 834G Wheel Dozers, 836G Landfill Compactors, and 988G Wheel Loaders

PROBLEM:

The 170-3843 Transmission Oil Filter Group on the listed machines may leak at the joint between the cover and the housing. The leak could be caused by a crack in the 173-8278 Filter Housing. Leaks due to cracked housings will typically show up in the first 2,000 hours of operation.

SOLUTION:

Inspect the 006-8350 O-ring Seal for cuts, nicks, or other damage to ensure that it is not the cause of the leak. If no damage is found on the o-ring seal, replace the 173-8278 Filter Housing.

NOTE: There are two styles of filter housings. Illustration 1 is the new style of filter housing. Illustration 2 is the old style of filter housing that could crack. Material has been added to this housing as part of a supplier change. There have been no cracks observed on the housings that have been provided by the new supplier.
