SUBJECT: Product Link PL-300 ECM (Control Gp. P/N 239-9954)

PROBLEM:

A performance issue has been identified with the Product Link ECM PL-300 (239-9954 Electronic Control Module). This issue is related to the internal backup battery switch that is used to keep the battery-backed-up memory refreshed when the main disconnect is turned to the OFF position. This performance issue will shorten the life expectancy of the internal battery. Due to this issue, the current life expectancy of the internal battery ranges from six months to five years, depending on use.

PARTS AFFECTED:

262-1421 Pre-flashed ECM in Kits

239-9954 ECM, Blank (Service Replacement)

265-9643 ECM, Flashed (Service Replacement)

KITS AFFECTED:

257-0426 PL-321 Conversion Field Install Kit

257-0427 PL-321 Legacy Field Install Kit

257-0429 PL-300 Conversion Field Install Kit

257-0431 PL-300 Legacy Field Install Kit

SOLUTION:

Two different and separate methods will be used to resolve this issue. Either of these methods will return full performance, functionality, and life expectancy to the ECM.

Method 1 - Units Already Installed on Machines:

For units already installed on machines, a software flash file method will be used. This new software will move stored data from the battery-backed memory to a memory location that does not require the internal battery. This software will be released well before any signs of internal battery failure have occurred in the field. More information will be forthcoming on this solution.

Method 2 - Units Currently in Dealer Inventory:

For units currently in dealer inventory, a parts stock replacement program will be issued. The PL-300 ECM will be reworked with the hardware change and a new part number will be issued for the kits. More information will be forthcoming on this solution.
