SUBJECT: 700 Series Articulated Trucks, Differential and Bevel Gear, Service Part Inventory May Have Dowels Installed Incorrectly

PROBLEM:

The dowels in some new differential locking hubs may be installed incorrectly. The positioning of the dowels relative to the back face of the hub is critical.

SOLUTION:

The distance from the back face to the dowel needs to be checked on all new hub assemblies. Refer to Table 1 for part numbers of the effected hub assemblies.

Table 1

Check the position of the dowels relative to the back face of the hub on all new hub assemblies. The dowels should be recessed 1 +/- 0.25 mm (X) from the back face of the hub. Refer to Figure 1 and Figure 2.

Figure 1

Figure 2 Detail A

If a new hub has dowels that are recessed more that 1.25 mm. The dowels will need to be pressed into the hub till they are 1 +/- 0.25 mm (X) from the back face of the hub. If the dowels do not have the proper hub engagement, they could "walk" out.
