Note: Use clean engine oil to lubricate the threads of the cylinder head bolts before assembly.

Use the following procedure to tighten the cylinder head bolts:

  1. Tighten for bolt 1 through bolt 14 in a numerical sequence to 270 ± 25 N·m (200 ± 18 lb ft).

  1. Again, tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 14 in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Finally tighten the bolt 1 through bolt 14 in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Install the rocker arm assemblies onto the cylinder head.

  1. Tighten the bolt 15 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 270 ± 25 N·m (200 ± 18 lb ft).

  1. Again, tighten the bolt 15 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).

  1. Finally tighten the bolt 15 through bolt 26 in a numerical sequence to 450 ± 20 N·m (330 ± 15 lb ft).

Note: Tighten the bolt 27 through bolt 39 only after the cylinder head bolts have been given final torque.

  1. Tighten the bolt 27 through bolt 39 in a numerical sequence to 47 ± 7 N·m (35 ± 5 lb ft).

(1) Torque for the taperlock studs ... 35 ± 5 N·m (26 ± 4 lb ft)

If equipped, use the following procedure in order to tighten the bracket for the fuel pump and the bracket for the timing cover to the cylinder heads.

Note: Use clean engine oil to lubricate the threads of the bolts prior to installation.

Note: Tighten the bolts only after the cylinder head bolts have been given final torque.

(2) Use the following procedure to tighten the bolts:

  1. Position the fuel pump brackets over the bolt holes that are in the cylinder head. Install the cylinder head bolts (3) through the bracket. Finger tighten the bolts.

  1. Remove the two bolts from the fuel pump in order to install the bolts (2) .

  1. Align the fuel pump against the fuel pump brackets and install the bolts 2. Tighten the bolts to the standard torque.

  1. Tighten the bolts (3) to 44 ± 7 N·m (32 ± 5 lb ft).

(4) Installation depth of the cup plugs in the front and rear side of each cylinder head ... 4.3 ± 0.8 mm (0.17 ± 0.03 inch)

(5) Installation depth of the cup plugs in the front and rear side of cylinder head. ... 2.5 ± 0.8 mm (0.10 ± 0.03 inch)

Note: Apply liquid soap (40% solid) to the O-ring seal (7) and to the bore of the cylinder head prior to installation of the nozzle adapter.

Note: Apply 4C-5599 Anti-Seize Compound onto the threads of the nozzle adapter prior to installation.

(6) Tighten the nozzle adapter to the following torque. ... 200 ± 14 N·m (150 ± 10 lb ft)
