(1) Torque for the 13 bolts ... 60 ± 12 N·m (44.3 ± 8.9 lb ft)

(2) Lubricate the seals and the bores with the lubricant that is being sealed.

(3) Torque for the 4 bolts ... 530 ± 70 N·m (390.9 ± 51.6 lb ft)

(4) Torque for the 4 bolts ... 105 ± 20 N·m (77.4 ± 14.8 lb ft)

(5) Coat both sides of friction discs thoroughly. Use the lubricant to be used in the power train.

(6) Assembled backlash ... 0.31 ± 0.11 mm (0.012 ± 0.004 inch)

(7) Tighten 30 bolts lightly in order to hold the gear to the housing. Allow the gear to cool. Once the gear has cooled to approximately 49 °C (120 °F) tighten the bolts to a torque of 70 ± 15 N·m (51 ± 11 lb ft). Recheck that the torque is 70 ± 15 N·m (51 ± 11 lb ft). Turn the bolts through an additional 60° ± 10°.

(12) Coat the surface of the bore in the retainer with 8C-8422 Sealant .

(13) When the preload is correct, lock the locknut in place with the four setscrews that are part of the locknut. Tighten the setscrews in a diagonal pattern to a torque of 6 ± 1 N·m (53 ± 9 lb in). Repeat the sequence until the torque is maintained.

Note: Do not apply any thread lock compound to the locknut as part of the assembly procedure.

Once the gear has cooled to approximately 49 °C (120 °F) tighten the bolts to a torque of 150 ± 15 N·m (110.6 ± 11.1 lb ft). Recheck that the torque is 150 ± 15 N·m (110.6 ± 11.1 lb ft). Turn the bolts through an additional 30° ± 5°.

(4) Assembled backlash ... 0.30 ± 0.11 mm (0.012 ± 0.004 inch)

(5) Tighten 28 bolts lightly in order to hold the gear to the housing. Allow the gear to cool.
