This Systems Operation section discusses the features and operation of the drag conveyor system and the auger conveyor system. In addition, the major electrical components and hydraulic components are discussed.

Drag Conveyor System

The drag conveyor system has the following features:

  • Closed loop hydraulic system (piston pump and motor) for each drag conveyor

  • A planetary drive for each drag conveyor

  • A speed ratio control for each drag conveyor motor

  • The machine ECM and control inputs allows the speed of each drag conveyor motor to be controlled independently.

  • Gateless drag conveyors

Hydraulic oil is supplied to each drag conveyor motor by a individual piston pump. The hydraulic system is a closed loop system that is supplied by one charge pump that is part of the upper pump stack.

Each drag conveyor has a separate planetary drive. This planetary drive increases the output torque from the drag conveyor motor to the chain drive for the drag conveyor.

Each drag conveyor is controlled independently by adjusting a speed ratio dial. The speed of the drag conveyors are controlled relative to the auger conveyors by the machine ECM. The machine ECM processes all of the input data and adjusts the output of the piston pumps in order to control the speed of the drag conveyor motors. The two independent conveyors are identical to each other. Each drag conveyor only controls the flow of material on that respective side of the hopper.

To control the mix delivery, the operator sets a speed rate for each drag conveyor that will maintain the desired mix level in the left or right augers. Once the drag conveyors speeds are set, the ratio of conveyor speed to the maximum auger speed is automatically maintained by the machine ECM. This capability is very helpful when the machine is paving wider on one side of the machine. Once the drag conveyor speeds are set, the ratio between the drag conveyor speed and the corresponding auger conveyor speed will be maintained. The conveyor speeds will be maintained even when the paving width or the propel speed is changed. In addition, the conveyor speeds will be maintained if the control sensors call for more mix or less mix.

The gateless drag conveyors always run full of mix. This allows the drag conveyors to run at slower speeds. As a result, component wear will be reduced.

Auger Conveyor System

The auger conveyor system has the following features:

  • Closed loop hydraulic system (piston pump and motor) for each auger conveyor

  • A planetary drive for each auger conveyor

  • The machine ECM and controls allows the speed of each auger conveyor to be controlled independently.

  • Auger chain case is separated from the mainframe

  • Vertically adjustable auger assembly

Hydraulic oil is supplied to each auger conveyor motor by a individual piston pump. The hydraulic system is a closed loop system that is supplied by one charge pump that is part of the upper pump stack.

Each auger conveyor has a separate planetary drive. This planetary drive increases the output torque from the auger motor.

The conveyor speeds will be maintained even when the paving width or the propel speed adjustment is made. In addition, the conveyor speeds will be maintained if the control sensors call for more mix or less mix.

The height of the auger assembly can be adjusted hydraulically. The height of the auger can be adjusted at a 171 mm (6.75 inch) range. This feature helps in unloading the machine from a transport vehicle and helps to minimize segregation.
