- Prior to assembly of the components use 0.038 mm (0.0015 inch) shim stock or a standard feeler gauge to check the following:
- Ensure that the bearing cups are seated in the case assembly and the cage assembly.
- Ensure that the bearing cones are seated on the transfer gear.
- Prior to assembly, lubricate the bearing cups and the bearing cones with the lubricant that is being sealed.
- Position the case assembly (1) horizontally.
- Assemble transfer gear (2), bearings and cage assembly (5) without shims (3) or O-ring seal (6) .
- Tighten 12 bolts (7) evenly.
- Rotate transfer gear (2) at least three revolutions to seat the bearings.
- Measure gap (4) between cage assembly (5) and the case assembly (1) .
- Add shims (3) to obtain a 0.10 ± 0.05 mm (0.004 ± 0.002 inch) endplay.
- Remove 12 bolts (7). Remove cages assembly (5) .
- Install the required shims (3) .
- Lubricate O-ring seal (6) lightly with the lubricant that is being sealed.
- Install O-ring seal (6) to cage assembly (5) .
- Install cage assembly (5) and 12 bolts (7) .
- Measure end play of transfer gear (2). The end play of the transfer gear must be 0.10 ± 0.05 mm (0.004 ± 0.002 inch).
- If end play is less than 0.10 ± 0.05 mm (0.004 ± 0.002 inch), add shims. If end play is greater than 0.10 ± 0.05 mm (0.004 ± 0.002 inch), remove shims.
