Conditions Which Generate This Code:
The Electronic Control Module (ECM) detects a fault with the intake manifold air temperature. The ECM detects the following faults:
- The engine has been running for more than 3 minutes.
- The temperature of the coolant is more than
99 °C (210 °F) and the intake manifold pressure is more than30 kPa (4.35 psi) . - The intake manifold air temperature trip level for the event code is reached.
- Diagnostic code 0172-03 Intake Manifold Air Temperature voltage above normal is not active.
- Diagnostic code 0172-04 Intake Manifold Air Temperature voltage below normal is not active.

System Response:
The event code will be logged.
E539-1
The "High Inlet Combustion Temperature" warning lamp will come on.
E539-2
The "High Inlet Combustion Temperature" warning lamp will be on and the action lamp will come on.
Possible Performance Effect:
E539-1
None
E539-2
The ECM will derate the power. The power will be derated at one percent per second.
The derate of the engine will only occur if the "Enable Derate" customer programmable parameter has been enabled.
Troubleshooting:
Test Step 1.
Refer to Troubleshooting, "Intake Air Temperature Is Too High".
Results:
- OK - STOP
