Strike-Off
`

Remove Strike-Off Assembly (Fixed)

Start By:

a. remove end gate assembly.

1. Remove the nuts and flatwashers from the bolts that hold the strike-off assembly (1) to the screed.

2. Support the strike-off assembly, and remove the bolts and flatwashers that hold the strike-off assembly to the adjustment bars (2).

3. Remove the strike-off assembly (1).

Install Strike-Off Assembly (Fixed)

1. Position holes of strike-off (1) with the slots (2) in the mainframe.

2. Install flatwashers and bolts (3) to the adjustment bar (4), but do not tighten.

3. Install upper bolts (5), nuts and flatwashers to screed mainframe, but do not tighten.

4. Adjust strike-off to the correct position with the adjustment bar (4), then tighten all the bolts.

NOTE: See the Operation and Maintenance Guide, Form No. KEBU0643 for the correct adjustment of the strike-off assembly.

End By:

a. install end gate assembly.

Remove Strike-Off (Extendable)

Start By:

a. remove end gate assembly.

1. With the screed in the raised position, fully extend the strike-off.

2. Lower the screed onto blocks.

3. Remove extension cylinder rod nut (1) on the outside of the strike-off end plate (2), and retract the cylinder rod (3).

4. Attach a lifting device to extendable strike-off (4), slide the strike-off out of the support guide (5) and move the strike-off away from the screed.

5. Attach a lifting device to the strike-off support guide (5), remove the support guide bolts (6), and remove the support guide.

6. If necessary, remove the fixed strike-off.

Install Strike-Off (Extendable)

1. If removed, install the fixed strike-off.

2. Position support guide (1) with mounting holes in alignment, and install the mounting bolts (2).

3. Put extendable strike-off (3) in position in the support guide, and slide the strike-off part of the way into the guide.

4. Start the engine and slowly extend rod of the cylinder until the extension rod (4) goes through the hole in the end plate (5). Be careful not to damage the extension rod threads.

5. Install and tighten the nut (6) on the outside of end plate (5).

End By:

a. install end gate assembly.

Remove Extendable Strike-Off Cylinder

1. Extend the strike-off all the way out, and lower the screed to the ground.

2. Remove the extension cylinder rod nut (1) on the outside of the strike-off end plate (2).

3. Retract cylinder rod (3) and stop the engine.

4. Thoroughly clean around the hydraulic fittings and mark the hydaulic lines (4) for identification at installation.

5. Remove the hydraulic lines, and immediately cap or plug the ends of the fittings.

6. Attach a lifting device to the cylinder (5) and remove the mounting bolt (6).

7. Remove the cylinder from the screed.

Install Extendable Strike-Off Cylinder

1. Position the head end of the cylinder (1) in its support bracket, and install mounting bolt (2).

2. Remove the caps and plugs and connect the hydraulic hoses back to the cylinder.

3. Start the engine and slowly extend the cylinder rod to its full travel. Make sure the threads of the extension rod (3) are not damaged as they pass through the hole in the strike-off end plate (4).

4. Install the nut (5) to the extension rod on the outside of the strike-off end plate.

5. Make sure that the cylinder rod retracts completely and, if necessary, adjust the extension rod at the end of the cylinder rod.

Remove And Install Fixed End Gate Assembly

1. With the screed resting on a level surface, raise end gate (1) with attached crank assemblies (2) until the shoe (3) of the end gate is off the ground.

2. Attach a lifting device to end gate support (4), and remove the two nuts (5) and flatwashers from the support. Pull the end gate support (4) outboard off the threaded rods (6) and move the end gate assembly away.

3. Unhook the chains from the shoe of the crank assemblies (2) to separate end gate (1) from the end gate support (4).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the fixed end gate assembly.

4. Position end gate (1) in support (4) and attach chains of crank assemblies (2) to the shoe (3).

5. Attach a lifting device to the end gate support (4) and lift the support and the end gate as a unit.

6. Position the unit on the two threaded rods (6) at the end of the screed and install the two nuts (5) and flatwashers. Remove the lifting device.

7. Lower the end gate with the crank assemblies until end gate shoe (3) is resting on the ground.

Remove And Install Extendable End Gate Assembly

1. With the screed resting on a level surface, raise end gate (1) with attached crank assemblies (2) until the shoe (3) of the end gate is off the ground.

2. Attach a lifting device to end gate support (4), and remove the nut (5) and the four bolts located inside the holes (6) in the support. Move the end gate assembly away.

3. Unhook the chains from the shoe of the crank assemblies (2) to separate end gate (1) from the end gate support (4).

NOTE: The following steps are for installation of the extendable end gate assembly.

4. Position end gate (1) in support (4) and attach chains of crank assemblies (2) to the shoe (3).

5. Attach a lifting device to the end gate support (4) and lift the support and the end gate as a unit.

6. Position the unit on the threaded bar with the mounting holes of support in alignment with the holes in the end plate of the strike-off, and install the four bolts inside holes (6). Install nut (5) on the threaded rod and remove the lifting device.

7. Lower the end gate with the crank assemblies until end gate shoe (3) is resting on the ground.
