793C XQ Off-Highway Truck and 793C Off-Highway Truck Engine Supplement Muffler - Remove Caterpillar

Removal Procedure

Start By:

1. Install the truck body retaining cable. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Truck Body Retaining Cable - Remove and Install".

1. Remove bolts (1) that secure the grab handles (3) to cover (2). Remove grab handles from the truck.

2. Remove bolts (4) and (5) that secure cover (2). Remove the cover from the truck.

3. Attach a suitable lifting device to the cover (2), as shown. Attach the lifting device to a suitable hoist. The weight of the cover is approximately 230 kg (507 lb).

4. Loosen the clamp (7) that secures the extension pipe (8) to the muffler assembly (6). Slide the clamp (7) onto the extension pipe. Loosen the clamps (9) that secure the extension pipe. Loosen the bolts (10) that secure the clamps (9) to the platform.

5. Attach a suitable lifting device onto extension pipe (8). Attach the lifting device to a suitable hoist. The weight of the extension pipe is approximately 38 kg (84 lb).

6. Disconnect the clamps (9) that secure the extension pipe (8) to the platform by removing the bolts (10). Remove extension pipe from the truck.

7. Remove the nut (13) that secures the muffler strap (11) to the platform (12).

8. Remove bolts (14) that secure muffler strap (11) to the platform.

9. Remove the muffler strap (11) from the truck.

10. Repeat the following Steps for the strap on the other side of the muffler: 7, 8 and 9.

11. Attach a suitable lifting device to the muffler assembly (6). Attach the lifting device to a suitable hoist. The weight of the muffler assembly is approximately 327 kg (720 lb).

    Note: When the muffler is removed, be sure that the seal rings which are located inside inlet ports (15) for the muffler do not become misplaced.

12. Remove muffler (6) from the truck.
